It is my pleasure to announce that the Tennessee Valley Homebrewer's club will be holding an Apple Cider Event at 2 pm on February 13, 2016, at the Hardin Valley Casual Pint. The event's purpose is to share tips on making apple cider and sample some cider made by club members. There will be a presentation on beginning apple cider making that includes a summary of the recent club members cider making methods poll.
We look forward to seeing you there. Also, there's nothing stopping you from bringing a growler of your non-cider home brew to share with the group.

Ironically, we were snowed out at last year's Ice Brew. It was a sad say, but we are back to try again. It will be cold and we are brewing outside (hey, what part of ICE BREW was unclear?) so dress appropriately. There is a heated basement right next to the brewing space for the sissies.
I will be brewing on a HERMS type system designed and built in 2001. The brewing schedule will be roughly as follows:
8:00 AM - Mash in
10:00 AM - Sparging
11:00 AM - Commence the boil
12:30 PM - Chilling
1:00 PM - Pitch yeast
Details about the system and it's components can be found here.
We will target lunch around 1:00. I'll be serving smoked pork shoulder with a few homemade sauces. A Perfect Potluck page has been set up for folks to bring side dishes and snacks. Click here to sign up for something.
Come to the gate at the bottom of the hill on the right side of the house (no one is going to answer the front door). Lastly, BRING A GLASS or else you get a plastic cup. See you at at the ICE BREW!

Hardin Valley Casual Pint
Mark your calendars for this coming Saturday (march 5th). Tom at Casual Pint Hardin Valley is hosting us yet again as David Disney will be doing a silver soldering demonstration for club members. Even if you’re not currently looking to upgrade or update any of your brewing equipment, this is a technique that you will want to come watch and geek out about. It’s certainly an arrow worth having in the quiver for any unforeseen future projects.
We will be in the back room from 3-5pm, so come out and have a beer with us and watch a very cool and useful demonstration. Don’t be shy about bringing some homebrew to share, but make sure to buy a couple pints from our generous hosts.
Sat16Apr20168:00 AM until the beer is done.

Save the date! National Homebrew Day is Saturday, May 7th. If you’re unfamiliar with the occasion, I took the liberty of lifting a quote from the AHA website:In 1988, May 7 was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world. AHA Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May.Tennessee Valley Homebrewers will be participating by doing a 5 gallon Brew In A Bag (BIAB) demonstration at Casual Pint Hardin Valley on the afternoon of May 7th. An identical beer was brewed/kegged weeks ago and will be used to provide free samples to the general public (and us) while we brew. All the specifics will be hammered out and announced soon, but make sure to plan on being at CPHV the afternoon of 5/7.Don’t forget to invite non-club members. These outreach events are a great way to attract new potential homebrewers and club members, not to mention new customers for our gracious hosts.
